Obituary: Claude William Henson, 84, Hood River

Obituary: Claude William Henson, 84, Hood River

Claude William Henson, age 84, passed away on April 24, 2026, just two days shy of his 85th birthday.

Claude will be remembered for his strength, character, and the steady presence he brought to those around him. He lived a life defined by dedication, resilience, and deep care for the people he loved.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jackie (Shuler) Henson; his two daughters, Lisa Willis and Lori Martin (husband Tony); five grandchildren, Arron Smith, Michael Turner, Cory Gross, Brittney Martin Hobbs, and Lane Turner; and four great-grandchildren, James, Kymber, Aspen, and Emersyn.

Claude graduated from Wy’ East High School in 1960, where he excelled in track and was a standout basketball player. Following graduation, he joined the United States Navy and married his high school sweetheart, Jackie, while home on Christmas leave on December 30, 1960. He proudly served four years in the Navy, including two years aboard the USS Midway.

Claude dedicated 33 years of service to UPS, where he retired with a perfect safety record and took great pride in never missing a single day of work.

In later years, Claude discovered a love for golf and spent countless days on the course. He took pride in his straight drive, low handicap, and deep appreciation for the game. He passed that love on to his grandchildren and his nephew, Tony Shuler, many of whom will continue to play in his honor.

Services are pending with arrangements under the direction of Anderson’s Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031. Condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com
