Obituary: Timothy 'Tim' Ray Arends

Timothy ‘Tim’ Ray Arends

Timothy 'Tim' Ray Arends

Timothy 'Tim’ Ray Arends

Beloved husband and father, Timothy Ray Arends passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital in Hood River, Oregon with daughter Grace by his side.

Born July 30, 1950, in Portland, Oregon to Henrietta and Edward Arends, he lived most of his life in The Dalles, Oregon. Growing up with his brothers, Ed and John Arends, Tim cared for his mother, Henrietta until her passing.

Tim graduated from The Dalles High School in 1969 with many of his lifelong friends. After graduating high school and spending a year in college, Tim spent many months feeding his passion for travel in Europe and Morocco. After returning to Oregon, he eventually ended up working on the Columbia River for Tidewater Barge Lines. In 1975 Tim married Sharlene Hamlett in Washington. They divorced in 1984 but always remained friends. In the second half of the 1980’s, Tim continued his passion for traveling taking many trips to Mexico to visit his cousin Alice and time exploring Thailand with friends from The Dalles.

Meeting the love of his life, Gail Carter, at the Barbeque

Tim and Gail married on July 28, 1989. Soon Tim’s family was complete with the birth of the couple’s greatest gift, Grace Lynne.
Wanting to be home more with his family Tim bought two apartment buildings and the family business, Bend in the River Rentals was born.

Tim, Gail, and Grace settled down to life in The Dalles for the next 32 years. Raising their daughter and being among family and a multitude of long-lasting friendships. Tim thrived in his role of a family man. Tim and Gail shared love of antiquing and collecting, birdwatching, taking drives to hunt for wildflowers and living in and loving the scenery of the Gorge.

Tim was proceeded in death by his parents, Edward Everett Arends (1919-1954) and Henrietta Elizabeth Cluff Arends (1917-2002), his brothers Edward Everett Arends (1941-2015) and John Henry Arends (1942-1985).

He is survived by his wife, Gail Carter Arends and daughter, Grace Lynne Arends, seven nieces and seven maternal cousins.

Donations in Tim’s memory may be made to Home At Last in The Dalles or the American Cancer Society.
We want to thank Tim’s lifelong friends and his family for their continued support during Tim’s illness and beyond.

Visit www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com to share your memories of Tim and his life.

Obituary: Herman Albert Peters

Herman Albert Peters Obituary Grass Valley

Herman Albert Peters

Herman Albert Peters

Herman Albert Peters

Herman Albert Peters was born April 12, 1930 in Grass Valley, Oregon. He died peacefully at his home in Hood River, Oregon on April 17, 2021.

The son of Herman and Clara Peters, he spent his childhood working on the farm, hunting, fishing, playing sports, and while most folks of his generation brag of walking miles to school in the snow...he drove the bus! He graduated from Sherman County High School as the Most Outstanding Senior Boy. He earned a degree in business from Willamette University and served in the Army before marrying Alice Lary in 1954. They settled in Hood River where he worked at the Hood River Laundry, which led to him starting his own successful carpet cleaning and installation business...the Herm Peters Rug Cleaner Co.

Herm was very involved in the community whether it was: building school playgrounds, constructing and maintaining baseball/softball fields, serving on the board while also coaching Little League and Babe Ruth teams, volunteering as a member of the Local Committee and the PTA, leading Boy Scouts or umpiring youth softball and baseball…he may not have always been the first to arrive, but he was usually the last to leave the event.

After Alice passed away in 1981, Herm reconnected with and married his high school sweetheart Connie Wilson. They enjoyed trips in their RV, golfing, fishing, and spending time with the family. In later years, he volunteered at the Hood River Senior Center and WAAAM.

Herman was preceded in death by his brother, Arden and is survived by his wife Connie, his children Matt (Beth), Dani Tice (Larry), Tim (Kristin), Julann D’Aboy (Bob), and step-daughter Jeanne Cushman...as well as his 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Per Herm’s request, no service will be held.

Donations may be made in his name to the Hood River Senior Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson's Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations) 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031.

Lilly was also close with her recovery community and the many sponsees she gained over the years, as well as her church community who helped her keep her faith throughout many triumphs.

Lilly loved to do arts and crafts especially with her great-grandchildren, she enjoyed going to her Tops meetings, and she cherished going to Rockaway beach. Lilly also enjoyed making flower arrangements of all kinds, and Lilly spent many years looking for the perfect wildflowers which also meant that anyone who knew her well knew that she’d make you stop on the side of the road for her to hop out and grab that perfect flower.
Lilly Ellsworth will be immensely missed by her partner Chester hall, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her very long list of family-like friends. Obituary: Jeffrey Cunningham Krier

Jeffrey Cunningham Krier

Jeffrey Cunningham Krier

Jeffrey Cunningham Krier March 24, 1950 – March 22, 2021

Jeffrey Cunningham Krier March 24, 1950 – March 22, 2021

Always a force, Jeff’s life is summed up best in the words of his daughter Samantha: “My dad left this earth and went to sing with the angels in heaven. My dad was such a gentle, kind soul, with a personality as big as the state of Texas. He was loud, funny, goofy, a sports fanatic—Giants, 49ers, UO Ducks—were his favorite—he loved to sing, to watch and talk sports with anyone, loved food, was always dressed in a suit and tie, he was very religious and a devoted Episcopalian, a friend, a grandpa, a brother, an uncle, a cousin and father. He never missed a sporting event and sang the national anthem at just about every one of Josh’s and my games and was probably the loudest in the stands yelling “Hubba Hubba!” If you knew my dad, you knew his zest for life. Due to physical and mental difficulties, the last few years were incredibly hard for him and he fought as hard as he could. It was his time, and he is no longer in pain, but in peace.”

Born in The Dalles to Dorothy Jean Cunningham and Malcolm Sampson Krier, he graduated from The Dalles High School and Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.

In 1977 he married Debbie Tooley.

He was in sales most of his professional career at Meadow Outdoor Advertising, and he volunteered in many community activities, using his powerful tenor voice in musical theater, the Cascade Singers, River City Dudes barbershop quartet, and sports announcing.

He was a cradle Episcopalian, actively involved in St. Paul’s throughout his life.

He is survived by son, Joshua Krier (Rachel) and daughters Samantha Tenneson (Andrew) and Katee Krier, five grandchildren, brother James Krier (Margey) and sister Patricia Krier (Tom) and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm and Jean.

When we can once again gather, hopefully in the summer or fall, there will be a celebration of life service at St. Paul’s with time to sing, share stories, and celebrate Jeff’s goodness and humor. Donations may be made in Jeff’s name to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in The Dalles, Oregon.
