Obituary: Thomas Kelly Sieverkropp, Hood River

Obituary: Thomas Kelly Sieverkropp, Hood River

Thomas Kelly Sieverkropp

Thomas Kelly Sieverkropp passed away on April 25, 2022, in Hood River, Oregon. Thomas was 62 years old at the time of his passing.

He was born September 29, 1959, in Hood River to Robert & Betty Lou (Gibbs) Sieverkropp.

Tom & his siblings spent their childhood living in several homes on Eliot Drive. There were many shenanigans and adventures on Eliot Drive with the many neighborhood friends.

He attended May Street Elementary, Hood River Junior High, and was in the Class of 1978 at Hood River Valley High School.

Tom married Vicki Schilling in Hood River on July 11, 1987. They had two sons, Ryan & Austin Sieverkropp.  They later divorced.

He married Reka Moore on December 1, 2001, in Hood River, Oregon. They together had one son, Weston Sieverkropp, who would complete their family. Tom and Reka had just celebrated their 20th Wedding Anniversary this past December 1st.

In earlier years Tom’s first job would be at Bette’s Place. He would later work for The Rental Center, Sieverkropp Orchards Inc., and Chrisman Excavation. When the Sieverkropp Family decided to sell and develop their land, Tom would then come to work for Moore Orchards Inc. where he stayed until the time of his passing.

Tom spent as much time as he could with Reka, the boys, and his grandson Apollo. He loved his boys and spent many hours with them hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, or just being together. He was involved in all their school activities and sports, helping to coach baseball & football, Cub Scouts, and many other things. It was during this time that Tom would become close to many of the boy’s friends, like a second dad to some.

Tom made so many good friends over the years that he considered family, including his “Westside Fire Department Family”.

Tom started as a student firefighter with Westside Fire Department.  This year was his 45th year with Westside.  Tom was honored with Fire Fighter of the Year in 1983. He would later become Assistant Chief alongside his great friend Rusty Gilbert. Tom was also a member of Wy’East Fire Department for the past 15 years.

Tom was always known for being a jokester and loved giving people a hard time. Everyone always said if he wasn’t teasing you, he didn’t like you.

He loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, golfing with friends, going to Elk Camp, all things fire department, and in his earlier days quad racing.

Tom & Reka (with their family & friends) enjoyed trips over the years to: Las Vegas, Cabo Mexico, Jackson Hole Wyoming, California & Disneyland, Puerto Vallarta, golf trips to Palm Springs- Indio, fishing trips to Alaska, hunting trips to Wyoming & Colorado, and many other places.

Tom is survived by his wife Reka Sieverkropp of Hood River. Sons Ryan Sieverkropp of Portland, Austin Sieverkropp (Alexus Morris) and grandson Apollo of The Dalles and Weston Sieverkropp of Hood River.

Nieces & Nephews: Maddie Hayes & Tom McAndrews, Anthony Hayes (Kady & Clarity), Amber Hayes (Leslie), Michael Spring, Samantha and Miya Lindquist, Bailey Hammel (Phil & Brian), Gracee and Kloee Dillingham.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Betty Lou Sieverkropp, and his brother Robert Sieverkropp.

Tom was there for all that needed him. He was very special to all of us & was truly one of a kind.  We all loved him, & he will be greatly missed.

There will be a viewing Friday, May 6th from 2:00 pm- 7:00 pm at Anderson’s Tribute Center.

Tom’s service will be Saturday, May 7th starting at 2:00 pm at the Hood River Valley High School Bowe Theater.

Obituary: Jeremy “Tad” Carroll, Mosier

Obituary: Jeremy “Tad” Carroll, Mosier

Jeremy “Tad” Carroll

Jeremy “Tad” Carroll of Mosier, OR passed away on April 26, 2022, at home with his family by his side.

The reason for death was Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, a rare and incurable seizure disorder.

Tad was born on April 22, 1974, in Vicksburg, MS. He is survived by his loving, proud parents, Joe and Linda Carroll of Mosier, OR, sister Callie Carroll and brother-in-law John Banks of Hillsboro, OR, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Tad is preceded in death by grandparents William and Sue Carroll of Texarkana, AR, and Dag and Helen Boothe of Sterling, CO. Many support workers were important in Tad’s life, including Dustin Mears of The Dalles, OR, his caregiver and treasured friend for 16 years.

Tad traveled extensively and lived in several states across the US. He graduated with the Elbert County Comprehensive High School Class of 1996 in Elberton, GA. He was the first special education student to attend the high school prom and walk with his classmates in the graduation ceremony.

In his lifetime, Tad made a difference in so many lives. He led the way for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and was an advocate and educator for people with IDD. He was the first to help create and attend an Early Intervention School program for special needs children in Vicksburg, MS, 1978.

Locally, Tad received community and employment services at the Columbia Gorge Center, Opportunity Connections, and most recently with Community Access Services in The Gorge. He was employed as a lunch delivery person for Lilo’s Hawaiian BBQ in The Dalles, and for the past 3 years delivered his Tad’s Farm Fresh Eggs to many local customers.

Tad loved to be around people and his friends, and enjoyed music and dances put on by The Arc and Beta Sigma Phi. He was involved in Special Olympics bowling, liked going to the beach, and loved outdoor walks and off-road vehicle rides. Tad attended many summer camps including Camp Kiwanis at Mt. Hood. He was often seen shopping with his support workers in The Dalles, Mosier, and Hood River, and enjoyed rides in his wheelchair accessible van.

Tad was involved in Employment First of Oregon and attended many conferences for IDD in Oregon. Tad and his family were the Keynote presenters for the 2019 Oregon Vocational Rehabilitation In-Service, Human Connection: Influencing the way people succeed conference in Salem. He also presented a session on employment at 2019 Breaking Barriers Conference in Bend and his work experiences were the subject of an Oregon DHS podcast.

Tad’s father presented his unique job and life to legislators in Washington DC by representing him in a “Congressional Briefing on Success of People with Disabilities Transitioning to Competitive Integrated Employment” at the Rayburn House Office. Tad’s featured picture on Oregon’s I Work We Succeed poster was displayed outside the hearing room door. His working experience and story are also included in a statewide College Curriculum to introduce students to supported employment.

Tad was a positive, visible, and important part of his family and the Gorge community. He was a founding member of The Arc Mid-Columbia and advocated for inclusion for all. He was seen at many fundraising events for the IDD community. He had many loving friends and was known for his infectious smile and sweet personality. As Tad’s peer and friend said, “Tad was a bright spot in the world”.

A celebration of Tad's life is planned for June 26. This will be an outdoor event with music, dancing, food, and friendship. For more information and the location please call 541-980-5584.
