Obituary: Andre Bartley Myron

Andre and Margaret in Las Vegas in 1991

Andre Bartley Myron
January 6, 1942 — February 17, 2024
Hood River, Oregon

Andre Myron, 82, passed away on February 17, 2024, after a long struggle with lung disease.

Private and independent, Andre was known for his exacting standards, along with a love of sunshine, jazz, and playing the harmonica.

Andre was born on January 6, 1942 in Spokane, Washington, the second child of Bart and Lucy Myron. He grew up on a wheat farm in Freeman, Wash, alongside older sister, Inga, and younger brother, Cary.

Andre met Margaret Reedy while both were still teenagers. They married at 18 and 19. Leaving the farm, the couple moved to Yakima, Washington, where their first daughter, Cindra, was born, and then relocated to Portland, Oregon, where their second daughter, Drew, arrived. They enjoyed several years in San Diego, California, before moving to Denver, Colorado, where the family spent most of their lives.

An accomplished machinist, Andre worked at tool and die shops throughout Oregon and California. In Colorado, he worked over 20 years at COBE Laboratories. With a mind for precision, he worked closely with research & development teams to create models for medical equipment.

Andre was happiest at the beach or a casino. For many years he and Margaret would vacation in San Diego, where they would spend hours people-watching, beach-walking, and sitting in the sun. The couple also enjoyed long weekends in Las Vegas, where they won, lost, and came home happy. They also favored road trips, exploring state and national parks and small towns throughout the U.S. and Mexico.

Andre enjoyed listening to jazz. After he was diagnosed with COPD, he took up harmonica as a pulmonary exercise to strengthen the lungs and was a founding member of the Huff ‘n Puffers. The group played together every week for nine years, including four years in which the group met via Zoom. The lung condition also created a commitment to physical exercise and in his last years, Andre was dedicated to treadmill walks as often as he was able.

Margaret and Andre were married 57 years. Margaret died in January 2018. In 2019, Andre moved to Oregon to live near his daughter, Drew, and son-in-law, David, who live in Hood River.

He is survived by his daughters, Cindra Kidd and Drew Myron-Rieseck, and son-in-law David Rieseck; and grandchildren: Whitney, Corey, Rosey, D.J. and Kimberly Kidd.

The family appreciates the many people who loved and cared for Andre, including the staff of Providence Hospice of the Gorge, Hawk’s Ridge Assisted Living, and Val Hiveley Blatz, Nurse Practitioner.

Services will not be held. In Andre’s memory, the family encourages contributions to Meals on Wheels.

Obituary: Dorothy Lois Maw, The Dalles

Dorothy Lois Maw passed away on February 2, 2024 in The Dalles, OR. She was born on April 6, 1933 in Chewela, WA to Alice (Cooley) Rieckers and Richard Rieckers. She grew up on a farm as an only child until she was 10 years old, when her sister Shirley was born. The family moved to Goldendale, WA when Dorothy was in grade school and she graduated from Goldendale High School in 1951. She then went on to attend college at Eastern Washington University where she studied business.

Dorothy was featured in the Columbia Basin Care newsletter.

Dorothy married Elvis “John” Clary in 1953 and the couple welcomed three sons, Richard, Robert and Randall. Dorothy loved her sons with her whole heart, always doting upon them and ironing their clothes each day before school. Dorothy and John eventually parted ways and Dorothy worked hard raising her boys in Goldendale, with the help of her parents and sister, Shirley. In those years, Dorothy was briefly employed as a waitress at the Oasis and then as the lead checker at Safeway. Later on, Dorothy worked as the Deputy Treasurer for the Klickitat County Courthouse and remained in that position until her retirement. In 1972, Dorothy married William “Bill” Saunders. Bill and Dorothy had a loving and fun-filled marriage, traveling to Hawaii and also to various states while Bill represented the Klickitat Sawmill as their Union President. They loved to camp and spend time with their children. Bill passed away in 1982 and eventually Dorothy was swept off her feet by another man, “Vernie” Maw, whom she met at the Oasis in Goldendale. They later married and were together until Vern’s passing in 2012.

With Vern, Dorothy was able to experience the world through travel and visited China, Mexico, Hawaii, New Zealand, and Australia. One of Dorothy’s favorite memories in life was visiting the Great Wall of China. Dorothy also visited Romania in 2006 with her granddaughter Shelby and Dr. James Ogden of Goldendale, where they offered free eye exams and glasses for those in need. In her later years, Dorothy and Vern owned a timeshare and also had homes in Ocean Shores, WA and Mesa, AZ but always considered Goldendale and the Simcoe Mountains her home.

Dorothy was a dedicated grandmother to six granddaughters, one grandson and many beloved step-grandchildren. After raising three boys, she relished in the experience of being a grandma to so many girls. Dorothy was very talented at crocheting and knitting and was constantly making blankets, sweaters and hats for her grandchildren. Her grandkids have many fond memories of visiting her at her home in Goldendale while they were growing up and can still hear the clinking of her crochet needles. She loved putting them in cute outfits and taking them around town to show them off to her friends. She was an immensely proud grandma and deeply loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dorothy thrived in social settings and made many wonderful friends over the years. You could often find her at the Legion in Goldendale. She wasn’t a drinker but she loved to chat and be around people. Dorothy was an amazing baker and fed her family delicious pies, cookies, and fudge. She was involved in the senior citizen community in Goldendale and was a proud member of the knitting club “The Yarn Benders”. Dorothy had a firecracker personality and will be remembered for her humor, honesty and her beautiful smile.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her three husbands; son Randie; and sister Shirley.

A memorial service will be held at Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel, 300 W. Broadway St. Goldendale, WA, on Saturday, February 17th at 1:00pm. Graveside following at Mt. View Cemetery IOOF, also in Goldendale. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will then be held at The American Legion, 108 N. Grant St. Goldendale, WA, where all are welcome to join.

Arrangements are under the direction of Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel • 300 W. Broadway Street (Post Office Box 134), Goldendale, Washington 98620 • (509) 772-2636.  Visit www.gardnerFH.com to share a story or leave a note for family.

Obituary: Christopher Todd McNeel, The Dalles

Obituary: Christopher Todd McNeel, The Dalles

Christopher Todd McNeel of The Dalles, Oregon, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Chris was born in Vancouver, Washington on June 18th, 1962, the first of four children to Roxene Sarvela and Frank McNeel. He spent the majority of his early childhood near Vancouver with his parents and three sisters. In his teens, his family moved to Lyle, Washington where his parents purchased the Mid Valley market in Odell and then later the Lyle Merc, where Chris worked throughout his high school years.

In 1981 he graduated from Lyle High School. The following year he joined the United States Marine Corps where he served as an aircraft ordnance technician. He was stationed in Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Canada, and the United States. He was meritoriously promoted twice and held the rank of corporal when he was honorably discharged in 1986.

After serving as a U.S. Marine, he returned to his hometown of Lyle where he worked the next couple of summers helping his Uncle Don and Aunt Marian, who were subcontracting to build part of the Pacific Crest Trail in the Mt. Rainier National Forest. His winters were spent working at Mt. Hood Meadows where he developed a passion for skiing.

Chris’ first daughter, Summer, was born in 1987, followed shortly by his son Tobiah, and then daughter Marnette. Chris became a corrections Deputy for the Wasco County Sheriff’s office in 1990 where he was instrumental in establishing a home detention program through the Wasco County jail. In the mid-90s he was promoted to patrol deputy where he worked concurrently with the Sherman County Sheriff’s office. For several years during this time, he was also the school resource officer for Wasco County.

Chris met Andrea Eagy in 1998 and they were married two years later. His fourth child, son Maxwell, was born in 2002. Chris spent five years on the Mid-Columbia Interagency Narcotics Team (MINT) and in 2004 was promoted to Sergeant. He worked in major crime investigations for several years before he was promoted and served as Chief Deputy in 2016 until his retirement in 2018. Never one to sit still for long, Chris joined the Wasco County Planning Department as a Code Compliance Officer and later as an Assistant Planner.

Chris had an amazing zest for life. He had the personality and natural charisma to befriend anyone he met. Evidence of his integrity, character, and faith was illustrated in his unwavering love for Jesus and for his family. Chris’ depth of knowledge in the Scriptures was remarkable and lent itself to the deep connections he made with people. With a fierce love of the outdoors, Chris found great joy in spending time in nature with family. He loved to snowboard, surf, and paddleboard, and he enjoyed spending family time in the summer at the river or the coast. Pacific City, in particular, held great charm; you could find him on the beach, cold beer in hand, with a view of surfers, Cape Kiwanda, and Haystack Rock on the horizon.

Chris will be deeply missed by his wife Andrea and his children, Summer Bodolay, Tobiah McNeel, Marnette (Mathew) Melton, and Maxwell McNeel; his grandchildren, Maynard, Genevieve, Hannah, Roxene, Willow, Elsie, and Odinn; his parents, Frank (Theresa) McNeel, and stepfather Keith Woods; brother Adam McNeel, step-brothers Kevin and Kurt Woods and Brian and Kevin Scattergood. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Roxene Woods, and his three sisters, René Smith, Monique Myers, and Jennifer Heldstab.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Covenant Christian Church at 2630 E. 18th St in The Dalles, Oregon on Saturday, April 6th, 2024 at 3:00 pm. Chris had a heart for children. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
