Obituary: Andre Bartley Myron

Andre and Margaret in Las Vegas in 1991

Andre Bartley Myron
January 6, 1942 — February 17, 2024
Hood River, Oregon

Andre Myron, 82, passed away on February 17, 2024, after a long struggle with lung disease.

Private and independent, Andre was known for his exacting standards, along with a love of sunshine, jazz, and playing the harmonica.

Andre was born on January 6, 1942 in Spokane, Washington, the second child of Bart and Lucy Myron. He grew up on a wheat farm in Freeman, Wash, alongside older sister, Inga, and younger brother, Cary.

Andre met Margaret Reedy while both were still teenagers. They married at 18 and 19. Leaving the farm, the couple moved to Yakima, Washington, where their first daughter, Cindra, was born, and then relocated to Portland, Oregon, where their second daughter, Drew, arrived. They enjoyed several years in San Diego, California, before moving to Denver, Colorado, where the family spent most of their lives.

An accomplished machinist, Andre worked at tool and die shops throughout Oregon and California. In Colorado, he worked over 20 years at COBE Laboratories. With a mind for precision, he worked closely with research & development teams to create models for medical equipment.

Andre was happiest at the beach or a casino. For many years he and Margaret would vacation in San Diego, where they would spend hours people-watching, beach-walking, and sitting in the sun. The couple also enjoyed long weekends in Las Vegas, where they won, lost, and came home happy. They also favored road trips, exploring state and national parks and small towns throughout the U.S. and Mexico.

Andre enjoyed listening to jazz. After he was diagnosed with COPD, he took up harmonica as a pulmonary exercise to strengthen the lungs and was a founding member of the Huff ‘n Puffers. The group played together every week for nine years, including four years in which the group met via Zoom. The lung condition also created a commitment to physical exercise and in his last years, Andre was dedicated to treadmill walks as often as he was able.

Margaret and Andre were married 57 years. Margaret died in January 2018. In 2019, Andre moved to Oregon to live near his daughter, Drew, and son-in-law, David, who live in Hood River.

He is survived by his daughters, Cindra Kidd and Drew Myron-Rieseck, and son-in-law David Rieseck; and grandchildren: Whitney, Corey, Rosey, D.J. and Kimberly Kidd.

The family appreciates the many people who loved and cared for Andre, including the staff of Providence Hospice of the Gorge, Hawk’s Ridge Assisted Living, and Val Hiveley Blatz, Nurse Practitioner.

Services will not be held. In Andre’s memory, the family encourages contributions to Meals on Wheels.
