Job Title: Office Assistant
Wage: $26.12 per hour
Part-time with potential for full-time.
Job Responsibilities:
Supports the operations of the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office by performing responsible office coordination and administration duties. Serves as Records Custodian, Civil Deputy, and Concealed Handgun License Technician.
Position requirements:
A High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by broad specialized legal and/or law enforcement training;
AND Three (3) years of responsible work experience in the criminal justice field, including working with the legal civil process and/or evidence processing and including at least two (2) years’ experience working in a law enforcement agency;
OR any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Special Requirements/Licenses:
First Aid / CPR certification required within three (3) months of employment
LEDS and CJIS certification required within one month of hire.
Must be free of criminal convictions, which would affect the ability or perception of the ability to perform the job; pre-employment background check required.
Knowledge:
Applicant is preferred to have a broad knowledge of federal, state, and local laws/policies related to assigned areas of responsibility including evidence handling, court proceedings, and civil office procedures; standard office equipment, procedures and practices; English composition, spelling, punctuation, recordkeeping and reporting; and reasonable knowledge of legal documents and terminology.
Skills:
Applicant is preferred to have computer skills, preferably in Microsoft Office Suite® products; skilled in typing, report writing, and filing documents/reports; skilled in communicating information effectively, both verbally and in writing; excellent customer service skills; skills in information analysis and report preparation.
Ability:
Applicant must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; effectively operate modern office equipment, computer systems and programs; maintain confidentiality and handle highly-sensitive information with sound judgement and discretion; accurately maintain records, reports and statistical data; ability to perform complex tasks with minimal supervision; perform assigned tasks independently with general instructions and guidance; remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational and/or high-pressure situations; serve the public, other internal and external personnel, organizations, executives and officials with courtesy, tact and judgment.
