To The Editor,
My name is Carol Goter, and I am a 30-year resident of Mosier. The following represents my personal views and not that of any others.
I recently read a statement in the Columbia Community Connection by one of the Mosier Fire District Board candidates stating that Mosier has had four chiefs in the last five years.
This is incorrect.
Five years ago, Chief Mike Renault was the Mosier Fire Chief. Immediately prior to that, he served as Interim Chief and Training Officer for Mosier Fire District. He resigned as Chief in August of 2022 to take a position with the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Until the current chief, Chief Michael Carlson, took over, Tom Oswald, current Captain and volunteer of many years with the Mosier Fire District, filled in as Interim Chief. In summary, there have been two Chiefs in the last five years, plus the Interim Chief position filled by a current volunteer/Captain.
I obtained this information by going to the Mosier Fire website and viewing minutes from board meetings, available to the public.
