Peak Tours Seeks Step-On Tour Guides for Columbia River Gorge Experiences
Cascade Locks, Ore., Jan. 31, 2026 — Peak Tours, a family-owned, Oregon-based company specializing in immersive, story-driven sightseeing tours, is now accepting applications for Step-On Tour Guides for the 2026 tourism season. This work is part-time, seasonal, and freelance.
Step-On Tour Guides join guests aboard existing vehicles, such as motorcoaches, to provide live narration and interpretation over a microphone, without driving. These tours primarily operate in The Dalles, Hood River, and Stevenson, and candidates must be willing to travel to at least one of these locations.
Peak Tours is seeking engaging storytellers with experience in tour guiding or similar work, such as performance, teaching, or public speaking, who are comfortable bringing regional history to life. Existing knowledge is helpful, but a strong interest in learning may suffice. Topics of commentary will include history, culture, and landscapes of the Columbia River Gorge.
“Reliability, positivity, and professionalism are core to our work,” says Director of Tour Development Damon Kupper. “Our guides are ambassadors for the region, and arriving early, prepared, and ready to engage is critical to maintaining the high standard our guests and partners expect.”
This is a freelance, 1099 position offering flexible scheduling. Tours typically run 2-3 hours, though guide commentary is limited to approximately 20 minutes to one hour, depending on the starting location. Much of the remaining time is spent enjoying scenic surroundings while the group explores on their own. Compensation is paid per tour at a rate equivalent to $21 per hour, plus customary cash gratuities. Liability Insurance is covered by Peak Tours. The tours run from April through October, with interviews held in February and training scheduled for March.
Peak Tours is partnered with Travel Oregon and is committed to providing educational, meaningful experiences that celebrate Oregon’s natural beauty and layered history. The company emphasizes responsible tourism, cultural exchange, preservation, and giving back to local organizations.
