The Dalles, Ore., July 28, 2026 — Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue responded to 93 calls during the seven-day reporting period. Medical emergencies accounted for 71 calls, or about 76% of the total. Friday, July 24, was the busiest operational day, with 21 responses. Firefighters also responded to eight fire-related incidents, including a structure fire, a vehicle fire, a brush fire, a hazardous materials incident and two mutual-aid deployments to active wildfires outside the district.

Notable Incidents

Eightmile Road brush fire

Firefighters responded Friday afternoon to a brush fire in the 8200 block of Eightmile Road east of The Dalles. The fire grew rapidly before crews stopped its forward progress later that evening. CCCNews previously covered the incident.

Structure fire on West Pomona Street

Crews responded Saturday evening to a reported structure fire in the 900 block of West Pomona Street. The incident was one of the week's most significant fire responses.

Vehicle fire at Highway 197 and Highway 30

Firefighters were dispatched Tuesday morning to a vehicle fire at the intersection of Highway 197 and Highway 30. CCCNews previously covered the incident.

Hazardous materials response

A hazardous materials response was dispatched Friday evening to the 300 block of East Second Street.

Mutual aid to regional wildfires

Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue crews provided two fire mutual-aid responses Saturday, assisting with wildfire operations at the Eightmile Fire and near Wamic as regional fires continued burning across north-central Oregon. CCCNews previously covered the incidents.
