May 7th is the 33rd Annual Community Clean Up for The Dalles Residents

Press Release from The City of The Dalles Public Works:

It’s Almost Here!

The 33rd Annual Community Clean Up will take place the first Saturday of May. The Dalles residents are encouraged to join in our annual spring cleaning event on Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This year the City is again asking citizens to make a special effort to prevent damage to street trees that have low hanging branches. Trimming branches before collision breaks branches is healthier for trees. Tree trimming also prevents damage to tall vehicles like garbage trucks and school buses. On Community Clean Up day, up to two standard sized pickup loads per household of tree trimmings can be disposed of for free.

The 2022 Community Clean Up will be held at the old County Public Works yard located on Walnut Street between 8th & 9th Streets. Yard debris and large items, such as furniture, may be disposed of at the site only on this date and time. Unauthorized dumping at the site outside of these hours is prohibited.

Citizens are encouraged to separate usable goods from trash. Gently used items may be donated to the on-site Reuse Fair. Event participants may pick up “new” treasures from the Reuse Fair area at no cost.

Lines for the cleanup event are long and move slowly. Please reduce congestion by driving to the collection site going westbound on 10th Street, turn right onto Walnut Street and then pull to the side of the road. Use caution when making the right turn into the event site. Please drive safely when on site. Then exit turning right onto Walnut Street.

Yard debris will be recycled by Dirt Huggers so please keep separate from the trash and remember no paper, plastic or wire in the yard debris.

Friends and neighbors are encouraged to help the elderly or handicapped dispose of unwanted items. Civic groups are encouraged to adopt an area of town for cleanup.

Volunteers are welcome! Please call Cindy Keever at (541) 506-2004 to learn how you can contribute to the success of this event.

Please bring household clean up items only to this annual event.

What Not to Bring
No kitchen garbage or food waste.
No tires, refrigerators, freezers or air conditioners.
No computers, monitors or televisions.
No compressed gas containers or fire extinguishers.
No dirt, rock or animal waste (manure).
No business or commercial waste will be accepted.
