Arlington, Ore., May 19, 2026 — Arlington Community Charter School has earned the Career Choices Silver Medal, a national recognition honoring schools that demonstrate strong student-centered college and career readiness programs.

The award, presented by Academic Innovations, recognizes schools that show measurable success in helping students prepare for college, careers and life after graduation through long-term planning and career exploration.

The recognition reflects Arlington’s continued focus on helping students connect classroom learning with future goals through the Career Choices curriculum and My10yearPlan.com. Students develop personalized 10-year plans designed to align academic decisions with career and life aspirations.

Our Friend Arlington Teacher Lori McGuire takes a short break atop Division of State Lands property to peruse the ridgeline for Medusa Head and Goat Grass back in 2016 at Cottonwood Crossings Summer Institute.

“It’s been exciting to see how students begin to expand their thinking about what’s possible,” said Lori McGuire, who leads the program at Arlington. “For many of our students, especially in a rural community, exposure is everything. When they see the range of opportunities available to them, it changes how they approach their future.”

School leaders said community involvement has become a key part of the program’s success. Arlington regularly brings in guest speakers from professions including engineering, aviation, education and public service to help students better understand potential career paths.

“I involve community members whenever I can because it makes learning real,” McGuire said. “When students hear firsthand from professionals, it reinforces that their goals are attainable and that there are multiple pathways to success.”

According to the school, Arlington continues to perform above state averages in graduation rates and subject-level proficiency, outcomes administrators say reflect the effectiveness of combining academic achievement with long-term career planning.

The Silver Medal distinction also recognizes the school’s efforts to ensure all students have access to career exploration opportunities and postsecondary planning resources.

“Schools like Arlington Community Charter School demonstrate what’s possible when educators create systems that truly support students’ futures,” said Mindy Bingham, CEO of Academic Innovations and author of the Career Choices curriculum. “Their students are not only prepared academically, they leave with clarity, confidence, and a sense of purpose.”

School officials said the recognition highlights how smaller rural schools can create successful future-focused learning programs through community partnerships and intentional career readiness efforts.
