Six local Gorge "stars" will compete for your votes in this mid-winter fundraiser for MCCCA. Tickets available at:
https://www.midcolumbiacommunityconcerts.org/events/dancing-with-the-gorge-stars-2025
About The Event
Mid-Columbia Community Concert Association is proud to bring back, by popular demand, the 11th annual Dancing With The Gorge Stars competition. Six local Gorge "stars" will compete for your votes at this mid-winter fundraiser for MCCCA. Like the reality TV dance show, our contestants learn a dance routine prior to show time. But in this show, the competitors are our friends and neighbors from the Gorge area. Paired with a professional dancer from the Utah Ballroom Dance Co., they have one week to learn and perfect their routines before performing on stage before a live audience. Video highlights of the rehearsals are shown during the event to showcase how far each contestant has come in just one week.
An entertaining judging-panel of three locals score each couple after their individual performance. During intermission the audience cast their votes which are combined with the judges scores and tallied to determine who wins the beautiful mirror ball trophy. The second half of the show is a spectacular performance of the Utah Ballroom Dance Co. with a professional showcase featuring a variety of highly choreographed and technical dancing.

FAQ:
1. What is SantaCon?
It’s a non-commercial, non-political, nonsensical Santa Claus pub crawl convention which mixes a flash mob sensibility with holiday celebration and happens once a year for absolutely no reason.
2. What should I wear? Dressing like Santa, Mrs. Claus, Elf, Rudolph, a Snowman or even the Grinch are highly encouraged. The more unusual holiday spirit, the better.
3. Does it cost money to participate? No, it's free to participate but brings cash to pay for your drinks. This is a no-host community event so let's make it easy on the bartenders by paying with cash.
4. Can I meet you halfway? Bar locations and schedule are approximate. Find us and join the fun when you can.
5. Are there any requirements? Yes, act jolly and spread the holiday cheer.
6. Are there any restrictions? Yes, do not drink and drive. NO EXCUSES! If you find an Elf that has too much to drink, call them a cab! Nobody wants to trip over an obliterated Elf!

Consider This: Stories of the Hood River Watershed
Oregon Humanities comes to Columbia Arts in Hood River at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, for a conversation with city manager Abigail Elder, media creator Sarah Fox, and orchardist Lesley Tamura on the intersections of place, storytelling, and the public in the Hood River watershed. How do art and storytelling foster a shared sense of place across racial, economic, and cultural differences, and how do these stories shape our sense of who—and what—constitutes the public? As part of this discussion, moderated by Adam Davis, our three guests will share about their collaboration on The Watershed Rock Opera, a multimedia performance celebrating the Columbia River Gorge and its people, to open in April 2025.
Tickets available at:

Saturday, Dec. 7, Eli West, Americana Roots musicians from PNW, $12 Advance // $15 Day Of Show, 6 p.m. Doors / 7 p.m. Show, All Ages
Eli West is an American Roots musician from the Pacific Northwest. A multi-instrumental creator of sonic spaces, Eli’s former training as a designer informs a sound that is lush and organic – neither manicured nor overgrown. Evergreen timbres weave among pitches, rhythms and lyrics to become comfortable rooms into which listeners are invited.
Lauded by Tim O’brien as a musician “making music the World needs,” Eli’s reputation as a crafter of considered, toneful environments has fostered collaborations with Bill Frisell, Andrew Marlin, John Reishchman, Julie Fowlis, and many other pillars of the growing Americana movement.
Friday, Dec. 13, Dean Johnson / Garett Brennan, Hazy, heartfelt sounds from Seattle’s best-kept secret, $20 Advance // $20 Day Of Show, 6 p.m. Doors / 7 p.m. Show, All Ages
Not long after crossing beyond the neon into Al’s Tavern, one might catch murmurs drifting up and down the bar during Dean Johnson’s bartending shifts – nudges and whispers that he might just be the best songwriter in town. “Wait ’til you hear him sing. Just don’t ask him to do it, because he won’t. He might do another show this year, but probably not.” Al’s regulars, howsoever biased, speak of his talent like a family secret – Seattle folklore.
Garett Brennan is an Oregon-based songwriter, singer and instrumentalist. His solo work explores the far intimate corners of the roots, folk and Americana worlds, often collaborating with members of the Foghorn Stringband, Blitzen Trapper, Black Prairie, Love Dean and Jackstraw.
Saturday, Dec. 14, MAITA / Desolation Horse, Dynamic, Folk-inspired, raw, Indie Rock, $12 Advance // $15 Day Of Show, 6 p.m. Doors / 7 p.m. Show, All Ages
When Maria Maita-Keppeler was in college, she studied the ancient art of Japanese woodblock printmaking. “By the nature of the medium, you have to be bold,” she says — but, you also have to be delicate, deliberate, exacting. All those little cuts on their own add up to the whole — to a picture, a story, a life. The Japanese-American singer-songwriter applies that same approach to her band, MAITA; she only writes songs she intends to finish. The band’s latest LP, want, out July 25 via Fluff & Gravy Records, is all of the above. A razor’s edge look at a relationship in turmoil, the record serves to strip away everything undesired in Maita-Keppeler’s life, leaving behind only that titular word: want.
Desolation Horse makes crunchy, sweet, guitar-driven music rooted in pop in a way that takes the listener somewhere much weirder and wilder than they may immediately realize. These are confidently eclectic songs, “filled with stream-of-consciousness lyrics and twinkly, lo-fi guitars as expansive as the ocean” (NPR). Alternately based out of Idaho and Oregon, the band, led by multi-instrumentalist/singer-songwriter Cooper Trail, released their third album, “Biff,” on American Standard Time Records in 2023.

A Richard Tillinghast show involves thoughtful song writing, deft guitar and banjo work, and usually a healthy dose of off-beat humor. "Through the years, he has quietly built a reputation for warm, welcoming shows...his music is a deep, healing well.” (Edge Magazine, SC)
Kyle J. Glenn (he/him) is a singer-songwriter from Portland, Oregon, who has been writing and performing his own songs since 2014. His music blends indie folk, folk rock, alt-country, and singer-songwriter traditions, and his latest record, *Everywhere is Close to Somewhere Else*, reflects a decade-long journey to find "home." Inspired by artists like Gillian Welch, John Prine, and Big Thief, Kyle's story-driven songs have earned him features on Kink FM 102's Homegrown Discovery and performances at venues across the U.S., Spain, and Portugal. After returning to Portland in 2023, Kyle is assembling a band to bring his new album to life.
Shelby Natasha is a songwriter and music producer in Seattle, Washington. Heavily influenced by her upbringing living between China and the Pacific Northwest, her music is a blend of alt-rnb and Chinese folk music. Her ghost-like vocals are performed alongside the traditional Chinese instrument, Guzheng, layered on top lofi beats.
Leo Moon is the solo incarnation of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Brian Adrian Koch. California born and Oregon raised, Brian has been active in the Portland music scene since arriving in 2000. He is a current and founding member of indie rock band Blitzen Trapper (2000-present) and psychedelic folk duo Dead Lee (2018-2023) Appearing now as a solo acoustic performer, his minimal and haunting tunes are stripped down paeans to the glorious absurdities of life; harmonica spattered psalms to the void.
