Big Horn Fire Update July 30, 2024
From SE Washington Inter-Agency Team:
Location: 7 miles SE of Bickleton, WA
Size: 51,569 acres
Containment: 92%
Start Date/Time: July 22, 2024, at 1:07 PM
Cause: Undetermined
Structures Damaged: 4
Incident Update:
Today, efforts to manage the fire will transition back to local agencies. Line crews and equipment will start being released. Many resources will be reassigned to support other fires in the area, while others will return to their home units. The Southeast Washington Incident Management Team (IMT) will remain onsite for the rest of the day and anticipates closing out and demobilizing by midday tomorrow. By the end of today's shift, crews will have completed securing and checking containment lines.
The increase in acreage reported today is due to improved mapping from Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) flights on Sunday and the use of satellite imagery in the Whitmore Road area. The fire perimeter remains unchanged.
Evacuations: All evacuation orders have been lifted.
Road Closures: All roads have been reopened.
Weather and Fire Behavior:
West winds of 10 to 15 mph will continue through Tuesday evening. A drying and warming trend will start today, with potential triple-digit heat by Thursday. Some areas experienced light moisture yesterday, but it was not enough to significantly impact the dry fuel conditions.
Smoke:
Currently, there are no air quality alerts for Klickitat County. However, with active wildfires burning throughout Washington and surrounding states, communities may see worsening air quality as wind conditions change. Critical fire weather continues across Central and Eastern Washington. Please recreate responsibly, as any fire starts could spread quickly.
