TD Riverhawk Sports Notes by Billy Brost - Oct. 19

It was another week packed with athletics for The Dalles High School, and as we prepare to close out our Fall sports season for the 2021-22 school year, there is still plenty happening for fans in the community to come support. Let’s get to it!

The Week That Was:

-Last Monday, Oct. 11, our Freshman/Freshman volleyball team began their final week of their first high school volleyball season, losing at home against Horizon Christian.

-Also on Monday, our JV football team dropped their Gorge rivalry match-up with Hood River on the road by the final of 22-0.

-On Tuesday, Oct. 12, Riverhawks’ volleyball hosted Pendleton, and in one of the great matches in modern TDHS history, and after falling behind 0-2, the Riverhawks came storming back to win the match 3 games to 2 by scores of 26-28, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20, and 15-10. Great performance to keep competing and fighting until the very end. Great job ladies!

Running like the champion he is, Juan Diego Contreras won the Men’s 5000m with a time of 15:43.2. Sophomore Leo Lemann also ran well, finishing third with a time of 16:49.4. Senior Conor Blair rounded out the top-10 for the Riverhawks, running a 18:08.2. The Dalles finished second in the meet with 47 points.  Odds and Ends:

-Our new Pyle portable PA system arrived, and will get it’s first test run on Tuesday evening at the Riverhawks’ volleyball game versus Redmond. Thank you again to the D-21 Foundation for supporting our grant request.

UPDATED DISTRICT POLICY REGARDING INDOOR MASK MANDATES:

During the months of August and early September, we saw a rapid increase of COVID-19 cases both locally and nationally.  At that time, we chose to take a more cautious route regarding masking for athletes indoors.  We stand by this decision as all of our fall teams have been able to compete without any cancelations or closures of conference and league athletic events.

Thankfully, we are starting to see cases decrease in this area and feel we can safely operate without requiring masks for our indoor athletes.  Currently this will affect our volleyball and cheer teams.  Coaches and fans will still be required to mask at all indoor events.  Hopefully we continue to see cases drop as we move into the winter athletic season.

Feel free to contact the athletic office if you have any questions.

That was the week that was, and what’s coming up in Riverhawkland! I encourage you to come out and support our student-athletes, practice social distancing, be safe, and as always, GO RIVERHAWKS!

A.D. Brost
