Bishop & The Bump-out: TDAC looking good
The Dalles, Ore., April 12, 2024 — Nancy Bishop was hard at it in the flower garden at The Dalles Art Center this afternoon as these tulips were in full bloom and taking the spotlight.
Bishop, who is also an artist when she is not playing in the dirt, is featured in The Garden Show Opening Night Reception and Garden Party on April 18 at 5 p.m. at TDAC.
“I volunteer but I do this at home too,” she said of gardening
Also in good news, TDAC’s Annual report shows the nonprofit at more than $40,000 to the good after a monumental effort by the board, staff and Executive Director Sally Johnson to take the art center’s operation out of the red as it was at risk of shutting down just a year ago.
In other artful news, The Dalles has just received a bump-out. See below. A new ADA sidewalk ramp is being installed at the corner of Washington and Third streets as part of the building renovation for a new grocery at the location.
Bump-outs such as these serve as traffic-calming devices that allow for safer movement of pedestrians. Bumpouts generally slow traffic down as they narrow the lane of traffic. And many would argue, they encourage tourism and shopping.
