Boil Water Advisory likely in effect in Mosier until Tuesday, July 30

Mosier, Ore., July 25, 2024 — The Boil Water Advisory currently in effect for Mosier residents will likely be in place until Tuesday, July 30, according to Engineer John Grim.
The system lost pressure when the power in the area was cut due to the Microwave Tower Fire that is still burning west of town.
Grim is a consulting engineer for the City of Mosier.
While power has been restored to the community including the water system which gets its potable water from a single well, it will take several days to ensure that the water is safe for drinking, Grim said this morning.
The water system is currently back to full pressure, Grim said, but the water it produces is not necessarily safe.
Multiple water samples must be completed to ensure that it is free from bacteria that can make people sick.
Samples must be taken at three different test sites and show a negative result for harmful organisms before the system’s water is cleared for human consumption, Grim said.
Samples are being taken to the Wix Water Treatment Plant on Mill Creek Road in The Dalles where the lab tests are completed.
In the meantime, residents are advised to boil their water.
Customers should bring water to a rolling boil for 1 full minute, allow the water to cool before using, and store the cooled water in a clean container with a cover. Customers should use boiled water that has cooled or bottled water for:
Drinking
Brushing teeth
Washing fruits and vegetables
Preparing food and baby formula
Making ice
Cleaning food contact surfaces
“The water is great for fighting fire,” Grim said, “but it’s no good for drinking right now.”
