There is a fire burning at Exit 87 on I-84 in close proximity to AmeriTies.

Firefighters were on scene tackling the blaze, Aug. 4 at 10:30 a.m.

Around 2:30 p.m. it appeared that the fire was dying down and the type 2 helicopter had stopped dumping water on the fire.

I-84 Exit 87 eastbound is open.

Highway 197 is open

The Dalles Bridge is open.

The railroad is open to slow traffic.

A level 1 Be Ready! evacuation (be prepared to evacuate) is still in effect for Columbia View Heights subdivision, the View Point Trailer Park, and the Celilo Inn as a precaution.

Power has been restored near Lone Pine.

Dufur School is the meeting point and temporary shelter for evacuees.

The LINK buses are being released from their standby to evacuate people.

911 is getting inundated with calls regarding the fire at Columbia Heights.

Dufur toned out for assistance.
12:17 p.m. Wasco County radio frequencies are down; switching to city
12:05 p.m. Dufur School is the meeting point / shelter for any evacuees
11:56 a.m. Command post set up on overpass of Exit 87 & I-84
11:52 a.m. Oregon Veteran's Home is on Level 2
11:46 a.m. 15 mile road speed reduction near Big Jim's
11:44 a.m. Columbia View Heights is level 2 evacuation
11:41 a.m. Hwy 197 & Columbia View Heights is shut down; Northbound traffic on Hwy 197 is closed.
11:40 a.m. Celilo Hotel being evacuated. Steelhead Fire Building has flammable materials inside that could explode - per The Dalles PD.

This afternoon, Aug. 4, firefighters from the Oregon Coast hold their hats in the strong wind while taking a look at the fire below Columbia View Heights in The Dalles. Two Task forces with a total of about 30 firefighters and all of their equipment were brought in from the Miller Road Fire near Maupin to protect homes in The Dalles.

Homeowners and firefighters look on as a helicopter dumped buckets of water on the blaze along the railroad just east of the AmeriTies plant in The Dalles.

These firefighters from Lane County were at the ready on Summit Ridge Drive in the event that the fire crested the hill and threatened these homes. The fire was being contained at the bottom of the hill near the railroad tracks at 3 p.m.

Firefighters from around the state were in The Dalles to assist in the fire that threatened homes in Columbia View Heights on Thursday, Aug. 4.
