Cascade Locks Firefighters Contain Blaze Threatening Wildlands

Cascade Locks, Ore. December 19, 2023 – A fire was reported at milepost 50 on I-84 near Cascade Locks on Sunday, Dec.17, at 4:18 p.m.
Cascade Locks Fire and EMS were dispatched to the area and discovered a large cache of railroad ties on private property had caught on fire. West Side Fire District also responded to the fire and two water tenders were requested from Skamania County. The three tenders were able to keep the engines full of water.
The joint effort had stopped the fire from spreading into the wildlands and containing the fire to the railroad ties.
Firefighters remained on scene overnight and into the next day to mop up the fire.
As of now the fire has been contained and extinguished. The only damage done was to the railroad ties that were owned by the property owner.
Cascade Locks Firefighters thanked their mutual aid partners for their help in preventing the spread of the fire.
