RIP Meat Loaf

In 2022, Jim Drake’s CD collection is Still Missing at Least 8 Meat Loaf Albums.

Putting Politics and Covid Aside, Rock N’ Roll has lost a truly unique singing voice that has been on the airways since the late 70s.

With a vague recollection of seeing Meatloaf in a television commercial (the one where he was portrayed as puttering around in his garage) and a disappointing gut punch that I never saw the band in concert, I thought it would be fun to pay tribute by listing a few

Fun Meat Loaf Facts:

  • An official International Meat Loaf Fan Club is located in Bellingham, Wash.

  • Thanks to the popularity of “Bat Out of Hell,” especially in the U.K., the 1977 album spent over 9 years on the charts.

  • Bruce Springsteen’s E. Street Band member Roy Bittan had a busy year in 1977, contributing Keyboards to “Bat Out of Hell” and “Darkness on the Edge of Town.”

  • On VH1 Storytellers, Meat Loaf reveals that the first song he sang in front of lyricist Jim Steinmann was “More Than You Deserve,” and ideas for the song “Bat Out of Hell” came from the movie “Psycho.”

  • Meatloaf appeared in over 60 movies, including “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” “Wayne’s World,” and “Roadie.”
