Chainsaws - Is there anything they can't do?
Willamette Valley Tree Clearing crews, a contractor for the Bonneville Power Administration, used chainsaws to cut grass, rabbitbrush and sage under a transmission tower near Petersburg School east of The Dalles this morning, Jan. 28. Crew members said the chainsaw was the ultimate tool for whatever they encountered - brush, wood, grass. Hard hats, kevlar safety chaps and safety glasses made the work less risky. The kevlar in the chaps immediately binds up in the chain of the saw if an operator makes an error and hits her or his leg with the teeth of the spinning chain, preventing or lessening a major injury. It’s important as femoral arteries are in harm’s way. The crew moves from town to town cutting under the towers as part of regular maintenance.
