The Dalles Ore. January 9, 2025 — The Columbia Gorge Humane Society is proud to announce the successful completion of a free spay and neuter clinic that served 92 pets from low-income families. This initiative, aimed at curbing pet overpopulation, would not have been possible without the invaluable support of the City of The Dalles.

On average, an unaltered dog or cat can have up to five offspring per litter, contributing to an overwhelming population of stray and unwanted animals. By spaying and neutering these pets, the Columbia Gorge Humane Society is proactively preventing the birth of hundreds of animals that might otherwise face uncertain futures.

“This program represents a huge step toward reducing pet overpopulation in our community,” said Suny Simon , Board President of the Columbia Gorge Humane Society. “We are deeply grateful to the City of The Dalles for their unwavering support and commitment to animal welfare. Their partnership made it possible for us to provide these critical services to families in need.”

The Columbia Gorge Humane Society remains dedicated to making pet care accessible to everyone and continues to advocate for spaying and neutering as a vital step toward a more humane and sustainable community.

Looking ahead, the Columbia Gorge Humane Society invites the public to join in supporting this essential program. Donations, volunteer efforts, and advocacy all play a crucial role in ensuring its ongoing success and expansion.
