Wasco County Commissioners COVID Update shows higher positive numbers in younger people and other data. Watch the full update.
North Central Public Health District gave updates to Wasco County Commissioners the morning of Wednesday, August 12th. It was live-streamed through Kathy Schwartz's Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/KathySchwartzRNForWascoCounty/videos/1216051615413487
The Health Officers presentation showed a few important data points. If you're unclear on these or need more information, check out the live stream of the meeting.
The percentage of positive tests from all those tested was 9.1% in Wasco, 8.3% in Sherman, and 5.9% in Hood River. Oregon's overall average was 5.4%.
The highest number of positive cases by age group shows that the 20's-50's age group had the highest number of cases. "We noticed a spike in some of our younger ages" Mimi McDonell explained.
Wasco County Latinx population is over-represented in the data. Making up 47.15% of all cases.
Workplace outbreaks are currently the biggest source of community transmission. Followed closely by the “unknown origin” group and then the “household” group.
Wasco County currently doesn't meet the government's metrics for opening in-person instruction in schools.
Oregon Department of Education and Oregon Health Authority released new guidance for counties with small populations. You can find that guidance here, https://www.oregon.gov/ode/students-and-family/healthsafety/Pages/Planning-for-the-2020-21-School-Year.aspx
Case rate is 114 per 100,000 in Wasco, up from 55, Sherman is 169, down from 282, and Hood River is 86, up from 79. (Case rates per 100k can change drastically in small populations.)
You can watch next week's update at 9 am on Wednesday, August 19th via Wasco County.
