Photo Gallery: Cruise the Gorge Revs Up This Weekend

A celebration of car culture was on full display last night in downtown The Dalles.

The Dalles, Ore., August 11, 2023 –A huge crowd of car enthusiasts and admirers lined the streets of downtown The Dalles on Friday night to kick off the Mid-Columbia Car Club’s 30th Anniversary Cruise the Gorge Celebration.

The cruise was an "open" affair, embracing the spirit of yesteryear's cruising culture. The event started at around 7 p.m. and stretched late into the night as Second and Third streets were transformed into a spectacle of gleaming cars and sidewalks brimming with enthusiastic onlookers admiring cars of all makes and eras as they took to the spotlight.

The cruise kicked off the 30th Anniversary Cruise the Gorge event.

Saturday, August 12th ushers in the "Show in the Shade" event, at Sorosis Park, 300E Scenic Dr., from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Parade of Champions and awards ceremony to honor the winners will being at 2 p.m. The first 250 vehicles receive coveted goodie bags and dash plaques. The entry fee is $20 up to July 31, increasing to $25 after. Participants can enjoy 40+ awards up for grabs, food and specialty vendors, classic tunes to set the mood, and a plethora of raffle prizes.

After the Show In the Shade, the celebration shifts to the Eagles Car Show/Dinner/Dance at the lodge, 2006 W 7th, The Dalles. From 5 to 11 p.m.

And for those seeking one more shot at securing a trophy, the Dufur Threshing Bee Car Show awaits on Sunday, August 13th at the Dufur Community Park, where engines will roar to life at 9 a.m.

As Rob Baker, President of the Mid-Columbia Car Club, put it, "One day, two days, or all three, how much fun do you want to have?"
