D21 Board delays superintendent decision to hold second interviews
The North Wasco County School Board delayed making a decision on hiring a permanent superintendent for the district tonight, Friday, Jan. 22. Instead, they opted to vet the candidates a second time.
The decision came after an hour and 10 minutes of discussion held in executive session. Executive sessions are held out of public view and are legal for board members so that they may discuss the employment of staff. However, decisions on hiring cannot be made in executive sessions.
Board chair John Nelson resumed the public meeting at 7:20 p.m and asked for a motion.
Board Member Rebecca Thistlethwaite moved to further vet the candidates in a second interview. The motion was seconded by Board Member David Jones.
No date was set for the second interview.
Current Interim Superintendent Theresa Peters, Wilder Schools District Jeff Dillon and Rio Schools Carolyn Bernal are in contention for the job.
