Wasco County has 48th death from COVID

Sadly, we are reporting the 48th death from complications of COVID-19 in Wasco County. The person developed symptoms on Dec. 8, was diagnosed with COVID and admitted to Mid-Columbia Medical Center on Dec. 11, and passed away Dec. 15.
We extend our deepest sympathies to all families who have lost a loved one during the pandemic.
Vaccinations remain our best tool to combat COVID. With an anticipated surge of cases in January of the new highly transmissible Omicron variant, the public is urged to get their vaccinations and or booster doses.

During the week ending Dec. 17, 678 doses were administered by the following entities:
North Central Public Health District: 429 doses; 19,798 total
Mid-Columbia Medical Center: 115 doses; 2,773 total
One Community Health: 113 doses, 4,731 total
Deschutes Rim Clinic: 21 doses; 847 total
In total, over 32,658 doses have been administered in Wasco, Sherman and Gilliam counties. That number excludes pharmacy doses. Wasco County has now surpassed 80% of its 18 and older population with at least one dose. Sherman County stands at 68.3% and Gilliam County at 52.9%.
