Evacuation Orders Reduced for Part of Lyle as Firefighters Gain Ground on Lyle Hill Fire
By Joshuah Albert
The Dalles, Ore., June 29, 2026 — Fire officials downgraded evacuation orders for part of Lyle on Monday after firefighters made progress on the Lyle Hill Fire, though Level 3 "Go Now" evacuations remain in effect for much of the fire area.
According to Klickitat County Emergency Management, the northern portion of Lyle that had been under a Level 3 evacuation order Sunday has been reduced to a Level 2 "Get Set" alert, meaning residents should be prepared to leave at a moment's notice or evacuate immediately if they feel unsafe.
All remaining Level 3 evacuation orders remain in effect.
Centerville Road also remains closed as firefighters continue suppression efforts in the area.
Emergency officials said temporary evacuation points in Goldendale and Lyle, along with the temporary shelter at Columbia High School in White Salmon, have closed as evacuation needs have diminished. Residents traveling through the area are asked to watch for firefighters, emergency vehicles and heavy equipment operating on area roads.
Earlier Monday morning, officials announced that evacuation levels and road closures remained unchanged overnight and temporarily closed Doug's Beach to recreational use so aircraft could safely collect water for firefighting operations.
The Lyle Hill Fire ignited Sunday afternoon west of Lyle and spread rapidly under strong winds, prompting widespread Level 2 and Level 3 evacuation orders. Fire crews from multiple agencies, supported by helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, continue working to contain the fire and protect homes and infrastructure.
Emergency managers encourage residents to continue monitoring official evacuation notices, as conditions can change quickly. An interactive evacuation map remains available through Klickitat County Emergency Management.
