Evacuation Update: Bennett Fire Near Antelope, Aug. 5, 2:30 p.m.

The Dalles, Ore., Aug. 5, 2024, 2:30 p.m. — The Bennett Fire started approximately 5 miles northeast of Antelope last night, according to Central Oregon Fire Information. 

It is estimated to be around 400 acres. Wasco County Sheriff’s Office had issued a Level 3 (Go Now) evacuation notice for the town of Antelope but has since downgraded it to a Level 2.

Last night, crews responded to the new fire startand worked hard through the night and will continue to construct control line around the fire today.

LEVEL 2 BE SET Evacuation for the City of Antelope. This area has been downgraded from Level 3.

LEVEL 1 BE READY Evacuation for the City of Shaniko.

The Shaniko Schoolhouse is open as a Red Cross Shelter and is the temporary shelter site for evacuees. Washington Family Ranch (Young Life Camp) is not threatened by this fire. Washington Family Ranch and Clairno are still without power, but anticipate that it will be restored between 6 and 8 PM tonight.
