Lyle, Wash., Oct. 12, 2026 — A series of loud explosions and a fire that sent flames several feet into the air destroyed two recreational vehicles and a passenger vehicle early Saturday, Oct. 10, near Lyle Point, prompting a response from seven fire departments across Klickitat County.

Lyle Fire Department crews were dispatched shortly after 1 a.m. to the east side of Lyle Point, south of the railroad tracks near Cove View Lane, where they discovered two RVs, a car and scattered materials burning.

The flames had also ignited a grass fire that spread across approximately 2 acres, moving east toward the Lyle Wastewater Treatment Plant.

According to the Lyle Fire Department, its assistant chief arrived aboard Engine 401, established command and immediately requested additional resources from neighboring fire districts.

Firefighters from Bingen, High Prairie, Dallesport, Klickitat, Wahkiacus and Appleton responded to assist Lyle crews in containing the flames and preventing further spread.

Crews brought the fire under control and extinguished the flames in approximately 90 minutes. Firefighters remained at the scene for about three hours.

No injuries were reported.

The Klickitat County Sheriff's Office, Yakama Tribal Police and Columbia River Inter-Tribal Police Department also responded.

An ambulance from Klickitat County EMS District No. 1 was placed on standby, while a Klickitat Public Utility District representative responded to address potential electrical hazards.

Fire officials reported that electrical lines in the area are underground, reducing concerns about overhead power lines as firefighters worked to contain the grass fire.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined. Officials have not identified the source of the explosions or released information about whether the RVs were occupied when the fire began.

The Lyle Fire Department credited neighboring emergency responders and Klickitat County 911 dispatchers in Goldendale for coordinating the multiagency response.

The incident remains under investigation, with no additional information about the cause released in the department's initial report.
