The Dalles, Ore., Aug. 14, 2024 — A fire broke out early Wednesday morning on Lincoln Street, prompting a swift response from local emergency services.

The fire was reported at approximately 12:06 a.m. when the homeowner called authorities, stating that flames were visible just outside his bedroom. As the situation escalated, the resident reported that his vehicle had also caught fire.

Emergency responders with Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue and The Dalles Police Department were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a downed powerline sparking on the road, contributing to the hazardous conditions. Reports of an explosion were also received, further heightening the urgency of the situation.

“Two occupants self-transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure,” according to Mid-Columbia’s Facebook page. “No other injuries were reported.”

Firefighters from the Dallesport Station were quickly on the scene, and the Public Utility District (PUD) was notified to address the downed powerline. Additional fire crews from Mosier were requested as the blaze spread to the side of the house.

Public Works was called in to assist with road closures, ensuring the safety of the area as crews battled the flames. The power company arrived shortly thereafter, and by 1:48 a.m., the fire was reported to be under control.

No injuries were reported in connection with the fire, and the cause remains under investigation.
