The Dalles, Ore., March 4, 2024 — On March 13, 2024, the City of The Dalles and Wasco County will host a free Disaster Movie Marathon at Columbia Cinema, located at 2727 W 7th St. in The Dalles. Members of the public are invited to watch a variety of disaster themed movies, enjoy free snacks, prizes and take part in a community survey on disaster prepardeness.
“The Disaster Movie Marathon will be a fun way to start a conversation about disasters that we hope will never happen here. When you come to watch the movie, we hope you will take a moment to share your ideas by taking a short survey. City and County staff would like to find out how aware people are of local natural disasters and the survey will help us learn how you think our community can prepare to meet these challenges,” said a press release from City of The Dalles.
The movie marathon is a way to get the community interested in joining the conversation around disaster preparedness.
City and the County are currently revising the Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan. Natural Hazard Mitigation Plans (NHMP) are required, by FEMA, to updated every five years. This plan’s purpose is to help the community prepare and respond to disasters.
“Wasco County was recently awarded a grant to support an update. Staff is currently reviewing the NHMP to analyze and identify areas for revision,” said City of The Dalles.
”Your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions will inform the updated plan,” said the City of The Dalles.
