Goldendale man killed in Saturday night fire on Columbus Avenue

Goldendale, Wash., Oct. 30, 2023 - A 52-year-old Goldendale man was killed during a house fire at 1500 S. Columbus Street on Saturday, Oct. 28, according to a press release from the Goldendale Police Department.

According to the press release:

At 10:15 p.m., Officer Schoenborn, and a Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the house fire at 1500 S Columbus, unit 19.

Once the Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire, one deceased male was located inside the home. The man was later identified as the only resident, 52-year-old Robert Evans.

The Goldendale Police Department secured the scene. Sergeant Lucatero contacted Q Globel Fire Investigation who responded and investigated the fire scene. Findings from the investigation showed the most likely cause of the fire was an accidental electrical issue, and the cause of death appeared to be smoke inhalation.

Thank you to the Fire teams that responded and were able to keep the surrounding homes safe.

Quote by Chief Smith “As we get into the colder weather make sure to check all your heat sources, that they are maintained and properly working. Also, make sure all your Smoke and CO2 detectors are tested and properly working. Please be safe this winter season.”
