Gorge Artists display work at Cathedral Ridge in Hood River; meet them Jan. 15
Gorge artist Alan Root of The Dalles stopped by recently to tell us about an art exhibit that is currently underway at Cathedral Ridge Winery, 4200 Post Canyon Drive, Hood River. Root and the members of the Columbia Gorge Artist League will hold a Meet the Artist event on Jan. 15.
Hood River, Ore., Jan. 7, 2026 — An art exhibition featuring 11 Columbia Gorge artists is now on display at Cathedral Ridge Winery, showcasing a range of styles and creative voices from across the region.
The show is presented by the Columbia Gorge Artist League and runs now through Feb. 12. A meet-the-artist event is scheduled for Jan. 15 from 3 to 4 p.m., offering visitors the opportunity to meet participating artists and learn more about their work.
Artists included in the exhibition are Jodi Wright, Ella Vorster, Cindy Ives, Brenda Huskey, Sue Faro, Linda Reichenbach, Sally Brown, Nancy Skakel, Jeri Rutherford, Alan Root and Yvonne Pepin-Wakefield. All are based in the Columbia Gorge and work in a variety of media.
Among the exhibitors is Alan Root, whose artistic presence in the Gorge dates back several decades. Root began selling work at the Portland Saturday Market in 1977 and opened a blacksmithing shop in Mosier in 1978. His early operation produced gourmet pot and pan racks that were sold through representatives in San Francisco and Seattle, eventually reaching clients in 18 states.
The exhibition is open to the public during regular winery hours and is free to attend. Visitors can view the artwork while enjoying Cathedral Ridge Winery’s tasting room overlooking the Hood River Valley.
