Hood River, Ore Aug. 1, 2024 — Gorge Grown Food Network joins farmers and organizers across the county in celebrating National Farmers Market Week from August 4 - 10, 2024. Gorge residents are invited to join in on the fun with numerous opportunities to shop at local farmers’ markets this week.
The Gorge is home to farmers markets in Hood River, White Salmon, Odell, The Dalles, and Stevenson. A schedule of all farmers markets in the Gorge can be found at www.gorgegrown.com/farmmarket.
National Farmers Market Week is an annual celebration of farmers markets proclaimed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Spanning thousands of years and cultures across the globe, farmers’ markets are rooted in our past, present, and future. Adaptable, flexible, and durable, farmers’ markets show up for their communities during times of crisis, celebration, and everything in between.
Farmers markets are more than just an outlet for fresh produce and friendly farmers. Farmers markets preserve farmland, stimulate local economies, increase access to fresh nutritious food, improve community health, and promote sustainability.
Peak summer produce has arrived in the Gorge and customers can find favorites from local farmers like peaches, plums, tomatoes, berries, peppers, green beans, eggplant and so much more.
Gorge Grown Food Network and farmers market staff aim to ensure that groceries from the farmers market are more accessible to everyone in our community. All farmer’s markets accept SNAP EBT and offer incentive funds to customers shopping with SNAP (formerly known as food stamps).
