History hopping for the One and Only Eleanor Borg on Sat, Feb. 18 in TD
From Karl Vercouteren:
“Her Name Was Eleanor: Teacher, Dancer, Equestrian, Activist” is the title of the February 18 program at the Original Wasco County Courthouse, 410 West 2nd Place in The Dalles. Saturday’s program begins at 1:30 p.m. and is the third in a month-long series of presentations.
Linda Wilson was Eleanor Borg’s student and helped develop the mural honoring her teacher that was painted in last summer’s MuralFest. Former students are invited to bring memorabilia and share memories. At 3 p.m. following the program, Borg’s students are invited to gather at the mural of Borg in the alley next to City Hall for a group photo.
Seating at the old courthouse is limited, so come early. Admission to the program is free but donations are welcome. There is a TV monitor on the ground floor of the 1859 courthouse to serve those unable to climb the stairs. Refreshments will be served after the program.
In 2020, CCCNews went in search of the original Sugar Bowl, an ice cream hand-out and bar that was originally sat near Ninth and Trevitt streets. We discovered it was purchased by Borg in the ‘50s and moved a mile f its current location on Webber Street. There, it became her dance school among other things. See that story here.
