HR County handing out the sandbags amidst flooding concerns
HOOD RIVER, Ore., Dec. 18, 2025 — Hood River County is offering free sand and sandbags to residents and business owners preparing for potential flooding, with supplies available at two locations while materials last.
Filled sandbags are available for pickup at the Hood River County Fairgrounds, 3020 Wyeast Road. Sand and empty bags are also available at Hood River County Public Works, 918 18th St., where residents are asked to bring their own shovels and gloves. Those accessing the Public Works site should enter the property and follow posted signs toward “County Forestry” on the south side of the lot.
Rain gauges in Oregon are showing more than 2 inches of rain in the last 24 hours, according to Raindrop.Farm, and forecasts are calling for more. A flood watch has been issued for the area, and local weather services report that flooding is likely as rivers rise with rainfall and runoff. A flood warning is also in effect specifically for the Hood River near Hood River, forecasted to rise above flood stage starting this evening through Friday evening.
County officials asked residents to use the supplies only if needed and said additional updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
The effort is being coordinated by Hood River County as part of ongoing flood preparedness measures.
