Kiwanis meetings are held every Thursday at noon at Spooky’s and visitors are welcome. This week’s events include:

— Jan. 2 is a fun social, with stories from the holidays.

— Jan. 9 speaker is Commander Joyce Orendorff, manager of NORCOR adult population.

— Jan. 16 program by Jayme Thompson, Operations Executive/Administrator, Adventist Health Col. Gorge.

— Jan. 23 Lisa Farquharson, Chamber of Commerce CEO addresses opportunities for the new year.

— Jan. 30 updates from Carolyn Bernal, Superintendent of N. Wasco Co. School District 21.

Karl Vercouteren

Karl Vercouteren came to The Dalles in 1977 to become pastor of United Church of Christ Congregational. Early on he joined Cascade Singers and the Original Courthouse board, reflecting life-long interests in music and history. Since retirement in 2008 he has taken on several projects writing about local history.
