Lance and Lea out of Nashville play the Bargeway’s Waterfront Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Waterfront Wednesday at Bargeway

Aug. 7 - Singing duo Lance and Lea out of Nashville take the stage at The Dalles’ premier outdoor Venue. Marked by old-school country/rock influences with Texas blues guitar, storytelling lyrics & soothing harmonies, their collaborative genius is on fire, with over 500 songs written. Their first album “There Goes My Heart,” with Grammy award-winning producer Paul Worley was released in late 2018 & their music has garnered airplay in the UK, Ireland, and in Music City, Nashville Tennessee.

Sage Christie brings her folk songwriting to Bargeway on Aug. 14 for Waterfront Wedenesday.

Sage Christie (formerly known as Siena Christie), is a modern folk artist known for their pure voice and captivating story songs. In both 2022 and 2023, Sage was a finalist at the Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Contest. They also won a handful of other songwriting contests including the Great River Folk Festival songwriting contest in 2021, Portland’s Folk Fest Song Contest in 2022, and the Walnut Valley Festival NewSong Showcase in 2023.

110 Years of American Flair at the County Fair

The Wasco County Fair may be over 100 years old, but there's always something new to enjoy. To see current events, follow the Wasco County Fair and Rodeo on our Facebook page.

The Wasco County Fair and Rodeo is a family friendly event held the third weekend in August. The Fair kicks off with Family FREE Day on Thursday (thanks to Waste Connection), so bring your family and enjoy the livestock, crafts, demonstrations, Circus Acts, Interactive Games, Godfrey The Magician. On Friday you'll find all kinds of the same interactive Games, Godfrey, Masters Family Circus, and Live music after the rodeo. On Saturday it will be all hands on deck with all the activities, games, with rodeo and beer garden in the evening and Live Band Music after that to dance the last night away. After the rodeo on Friday and Saturday night you'll want to stay in your seats for the Google Drone Light Show that will go up over the rodeo arena with 150 drones shining brightly! Sunday we will have the Cowboy Church Service with Breakfast served up by Safeway and then Demolition Derby at 11 a.m. So much fun to be had during this year's Fair and Rodeo that you won't want to miss it!

The Dalles Library and Northern Wasco County Parks & Rec announce the 2nd annual Music & Magic in the Park, The Dalles City Park, Wednesday evenings starting at 6 p.m., June 19 through August 14 (no event July 3). Jazz Guitarist David Becker Takes Audiences On A Musical Tour Of The Solar System

When most teenagers his age were playing Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, David Becker only wanted to play jazz guitar. It's a decision that's taken him to the stars. YNGWIE MALMSTEEN: The 40th Anniversary Tour

Yngwie Johann Malmsteen is a world-renowned guitarist from Stockholm, Sweden. ‘Crossroads Forged Together’ Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

A celebration of the Forged Together Crossroads Sculpture is planned for Thursday, Aug. 8 at Lewis & Clark Festival Park in The Dalles, 5:15 p.m.

About The Event

Join us for the official ribbon cutting ceremony for the Forged Together project, Crossroads. What do you call a sculpture built by over 250 people at a beloved community festival? “Forged Together” was a community art engagement event hosted at Cherry Festival 2022 in The Dalles. The community was invited to “hit steel and make parts” of the sculpture named Crossroads at a pop-up forge on the weekend of Cherry Festival. The People’s Forge, a group of community focused blacksmiths and farriers, volunteered to guide participants through the basics of forging to create their piece of the sculpture. Crossroads was designed by Hood River sculptor MacRae Wylde. Its skeletal structure was fabricated by The Peoples’ Forge and the completed sculpture, including the components forged by participants at the festival, was assembled by The Peoples’ Forge crew after the event.

The Last 100 Miles: The Fight for the Lower Deschutes

Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River and the Deschutes River Alliance are pleased to present the Columbia Gorge Premiere of “The Last 100 Miles: The Fight for the Lower Deschutes,” on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 6:30 p.m. Event will feature an intro by the film's director and Gorge resident Michael Peterson, a post-film Q&A hosted by Deschutes River Alliance Executive Director Sarah Cloud, and a reception featuring live music by Paul Chasman, the composer of the film's score.

ABOUT THE FILM

“The Last 100 Miles: The Fight for the Lower Deschutes River,” portrays the degradation of one of the world's finest trout and salmon sanctuaries. The Deschutes River is fed by rain and snow from the rugged mountains of central and eastern Oregon. Dams built 60 years ago wiped out prolific salmon and steelhead runs. Yet, the remaining 100 miles of free-flowing river became one of the region’s beloved whitewater adventure and fishing destinations.

“We love this river,” says local naturalist and fishing guide Amy Hazel, who has lived near the Deschutes for 30 years. “It means everything to us, so we’re going to do everything in our power to save it.” Hazel, alongside a trio of water and fisheries scientists, were puzzled by signs of trouble they observed in the river after Portland General Electric altered operations of the Pelton-Round Butte hydroelectric dam complex in 2010. Those changes have put the last 100 miles of the Deschutes River at risk.

Unlike many modern ecological problems, this one can be fixed.

"In a time when he was spiritually and artistically aimless, Family Worship Center’s shamanistic figurehead Andy Krissberg took a brief hiatus from creating music. He embarked on a freewheeling, soul-searching journey inspired by the late ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax.

Krissberg visited remote places across the country, creating field recordings of musicians he met straight to vinyl on a 1940s record lathe.

Reb & the Good News is a Portland based funk, world, and soul group that brings optimism and cathartic release to the dance floor. Led by vocalist and guitarist Reb Conner, Reb’s love of rhythms from around the world bring the dance floor on a journey that’s full of surprises. Formed in 2021 in the middle of the pandemic, these songs reach for hope in a world under pressure. Reb believes that through feeling deeply and dancing together, we can face all that we’re up against in this life. Portland junkbox blues duo HILLSTOMP is infamous for digging through the dumps and forgotten backwoods of American music, recycling traditional elements into a refreshing and distinctive brand of do-it-yourself hill country blues stomp. North Mississippi trance blues, a bit of Appalachia, and a dash of punkabilly come clanging and tumbling from assorted buckets, cans and BBQ lids, all drenched in rambunctious slide guitar. Somehow it works.

Despite their homemade instruments and novel approach, Hillstomp is no novelty act.

SMITH and TEGIO

Smith and Tegio is the musical project of long time friends and songwriting partners, Austin Smith and Mark Tegio. Austin and Mark met through a mutual friend in their late teens in San Diego, CA. Their friend owned a skate shop where they would skateboard out back during the day and play music and share songs at night. These years were filled with musical exploration for the two. By introducing each other to singer-songwriters such as Townes Van Zandt, Blaze Foley and Tom Waits, among many others, they laid the groundwork for what was to come.

WEEZY FORD

Weezy Ford is a musician and songwriter who lives in the Columbia River Gorge. Her first musical endeavors incorporated slide guitar, vintage feels, garage rock fuss, and tap dancing on her EP Bobbypin Graveyard. She got tired of carrying around a box to dance on, and began writing songs on a tiny synthesizer that would eventually become her first full length record titled Sugarcane in 2019. Her new record, In the Movement, came out March 8.

ALEX DUNN

Reformed Alaskan commercial fisherman turned singer/songwriter Alex Dunn now resides in the high desert of northern New Mexico, where he crafts his own blend of relaxed cowboy Americana. He has recorded with folk luminaries Anna Tivel and Eli West and has had the opportunity to share the stage with the likes of Marty O'Reilly, Rainbow Girls, the Hen House Prowlers, Rachel Baiman, and Kassi Valazza. Dunn released his most recent LP Southern Star in 2021 on Color-Red Records. It was produced by multi-instrumentalist and long time collaborator Bryant Moore (True Loves). The pair are set to release Alex Dunn’s forthcoming EP “You Just Jump In” this October 2024.

The songwriters in question are Hannah and Mookie Morton. The work in question takes a little more juice. Sometimes their music presents as harmonies and melodies placing themselves on ears and hearts like the careful legs of a balletic spider, in awe of its own symmetry and progress. Sometimes their work arrives as an overdue outpouring. Starting somewhere in the body - ecstatic as the seed of a pure and wordless truth - and then erupting as a cathartic yawp. Bonded by blood, forged in psychic battle, sisters Hannah and Mookie channel their lived experiences into music that glides through genres like a canoe on a quiet lake. Stage tested and bad to the bone. LASKA is the sound you hear when you're inside of an indelible memory.

UNSEEN OBJECT

Unseen Object is a rock band from Portland, OR. The project was founded in 2022 and is fronted by human multi-instrumentalists David Alvarado and Kai Nealis. Dylan Bodnarick and Malen Cuturic complete their poignant sound. They do it for love of the game and with a faith in "all good things come to those that stay true". They are all music lifers who care more about stretching to make some musical meaning out of the air than about most other things. They are finishing their first album.

PALE VIOLET

Pale Violet is led by powerhouse social worker and songwriter Mahalia-Lind Diamond. Drummer Kai Nealis, guitarist/ synthesist Jordan Porto, and bassist Dylan Bodnarick round out the band, which took shape after much time spent discussing vulnerability and art. Pale Violet is rooted in the desire to explore and share in the intimacy that songwriting requires. Their lyrics reflect on love, tenderness, grief, depression and uncertainty. They channel music to process feelings that are complex, and often discomforting. Just like therapy.
