Library Hosts Two-Month-Long Celebration of "The Hobbit"

by Cole Goodwin

The Dalles-Wasco County Public Library is gearing up for an exciting month of activities centered around J.R.R. Tolkien's prequel to "The Lord of the Rings," "The Hobbit." From March 1st to April 29th, visitors of all ages can enjoy a variety of events that celebrate the beloved fantasy novel.

The Community Read of "The Hobbit" kicks off on March 1st, giving readers the opportunity to pick up a free copy of the book and participate in discussions throughout the month. Other activities include a clay Hobbit door necklace-making event for school-aged children, a Fellowship silhouette canvas for adults, and a Bag End wreath-making event for both adults and teens.

The library is also hosting a Battle of Five Armies Nerf War for teens, as well as Middle Earth Day, a day-long celebration of all things Hobbit-themed with games, crafts, and snacks for visitors of all ages.

Adults can get in on the fun with activities like a Hobbit book cover welcome sign-making event and a take-and-make project to create a cozy candle holder using tissue paper transfers.

Visitors can also participate in a variety of Hobbit-themed contests, including a short story contest with the chance to win a $5 Starbucks gift card, and a raffle for a $100 gift certificate to Klindt's Bookstore. Visitors can find the Golden Tickets by checking out books from March 1st to May 31st.

Whether you're a die-hard Tolkien fan or just looking for a fun family activity, The Dalles Public Library has something for everyone this March. Come celebrate the adventure, magic, and wonder of "The Hobbit" with the library!
