Poetry Spotlight: Beth Slowik
April is National Poetry Month, which “reminds the public that poets have an integral role to play in our culture and that poetry matters.”
by Cole Goodwin and Judy Bankman
Welcome to Local Poetry Spotlight, a weekly poetry column dedicated to showcasing the poetry of local writers. At CCCNews we believe in the power of art and creative writing to heal, connect with one another, and build community, and that’s what the Poetry Spotlight is all about.

A poem by Beth Slowik
Go to the healer
Climb the craggy mountain peaks
Seek, seek, seek
Listen and learn
So you can see and hear
Sit with the visionists
Feel what is near
Eat of the fruits
Dance in the dirt
Feel the deep dark hurt
Birth
Push forth
From your creative womb
What gets your God drunk And makes him swoon
Make room for the unknown In your knowing mind
Effort to fully feel
What it means to be alive
Stay tuned for more poems from local poets!
