Toppling the Great Wall of Mah Jongg every Wednesday
Sally Fasulo, Bonnie Foote, Ann Ketchum, and Connie Christensen work away at the wall of Mah Jongg tiles on Wednesday Afternoon, May 5 at 409 Lincoln Street. The group has been getting together on Wednesdays to play the Chinese game for more than two decades.
It’s a game of skill, strategy and luck and in some ways similar to rummy. But Mah Jongg features red, green and white dragons, Flowers, Bams, Cracks, Dots and Wind. And it can be played anywhere as this group has proven. They have taken their games to Savanah, Georgia, New Orleans, Long Beach, Washington and Ketchum Lake over the years. Brenda Ponichtera, Carolyn Thomas and Donna Lawrence also often get their hands in the game.
“We don’t play for money,” Ketchum said.
“Maybe for a little wine,” Fasulo added.
