Major route in TD to close tomorrow, July 20th, for Tree cutting around Post Office

Tree removal and trimming will focus on these trees, tomorrow, July 20th. The work will force the closure of sidewalks and the westbound lane on West 2nd Street for up to 12 hours. A detour will be in place. It is recommended that drivers find alternate routes when possible.

From Pfits Services LLC:

Pfits Services LLC will be conducting tree trimming and removal services along W. 2nd Street next to the United States Post Office in The Dalles on Wednesday, July 20 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Right lane of W. 2nd Street as well as the sidewalk on the Post Office side of the road will be closed during the process of cutting and removing some trees next to the road.

Drivers should find alternate routes during the work or be prepared for a detour.

Project Manager Patrick Fitzwater Jr. said they intend to cut one tree back to the stump nearer the post office with the hopes of it re-generating. The tree lost large limbs during the heavy snow and ice this past winter.

In addition, crews will also work on a maple tree farthest west nearest the drop boxes as branches are beginning to interfere with the right-of-way.

Crews will also trim several of the trees to remove branches growing into W. 2nd Street as taller trucks are brushing up against them.

During the work, there will be no access to the drive-through mailboxes during this time for the safety of the crew and citizens. The road and sidewalk will be open by 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20th.

During the work, the left lane of W. 2 nd Street will be open and there will be a detour route in place. Please use alternate routes and avoid the area if possible for the safety of work crews.

In this map, the red line shows where the westbound lane of traffic and the sidewalks will be closed around the drive-through post office boxes on West Second Street on Wednesday, July 20th. The work will force drivers headed west on 2nd Street to detour around to Third Street, then Pentland, before restarting on West Second Street near The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce. Avoid it if possible.
