MoCo Celebrates 5 years with Wasco Brothers; Meet Nate Stranz

Community is the heart and soul of Mosier Company, a restaurant, bar, and coffee roastery lovingly known to locals as MoCo.
It is truly a family-and-friends operation that brings the community together, from Farmers, and kiteboarders to long-time Mosier residents and traveling tourists.
MoCo is thanking the community with a local celebration on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. with some great locally-sourced music - The Wasco Brothers with opener Spruce Baugher.
Mosier Company is in downtown Mosier on 2nd Ave. It has a multi-level venue and a gorgeous patio with plenty of space to catch up with a friend, enjoy a meal and cold drink, or dance to live music.
With their five-year anniversary approaching, I wanted to learn more about a side of the family operation that we often don’t see, the coffee side of the business. I sat down with Nate Stranz to learn more about his role in the family business.
Kate Cannon: What is your role in Mosier Company?
Nate Stranz: All things Coffee! Green bean sourcing, roasting, bagging and delivering fuel for fun.
KC: What do you love about your job?
NS: I love the ceremony surrounding coffee enjoyment. Most coffee drinkers have their own daily practice or ritual involving a simple cup of coffee. I love the idea of aiding in that process.
KC: How has your family/community supported the running of the business?
NS: When you’re at MoCo, engaging with a member of the Stranz family is almost a guarantee… From bartenders to landscapers, delivery drivers to musicians. As we celebrate our 5th anniversary, it’s incredibly rewarding to see our family and community evolve together. It took a Family to conjure up this project, and a community to cultivate it. Along the way, the community of Mosier has become part of the family, and because of this, MoCo thrives.
KC: What do you love about Mosier?
NS: Our family roots have been growing in Mosier for over 120 years, observing the beauty and simplicity of life in the Gorge. For me, Mosier is a part of my character, my way of life, and my soul.
KC: What values are important to you and how do you incorporate them into your work?
NS: I value respect and honesty, healthy choices, love and kindness. A cup of Mo’Coffee is responsibly sourced, clean, thoughtfully roasted, and intentionally enjoyable.
