New RecycleOn centers open in Hood River & The Dalles, expanding free recycling options

While these items are not allowed in curbside recycling, they are being accepted at new disposal facilities located at Hood River Garbage and The Dalles Disposal.

The Dalles, Ore., June 30, 2026 — Residents in Hood River and The Dalles now have two new free locations where they can recycle household materials that are not accepted in curbside recycling carts.

The new RecycleOn Centers are part of Oregon's Recycling Modernization Act, which is expanding recycling opportunities statewide through funding provided by companies that manufacture paper and packaging. The Hood River and The Dalles locations increase the statewide network to 32 RecycleOn Centers.

"This centers show how Oregon's Recycling Modernization Act is expanding access to recycling and improving the quality of materials collected," said Kim Holmes, Oregon executive director for Circular Action Alliance. "Producer funding helps make that possible."

Jim Winterbottom, district manager for Waste Connections of the Columbia Gorge, said the new centers provide Gorge residents with a convenient way to recycle materials that do not belong in curbside recycling carts.

"We're glad to offer Gorge residents a simple, local way to recycle materials that don't belong in their recycling cart," Winterbottom said. "These centers make it easier for people to recycle more and keep additional items out of the landfill."

Accepted materials include plastic bags and other stretchy plastics, plastic lids and caps, rigid plastic package handles such as six-pack carriers, plastic buckets and pails, shredded paper placed in a paper bag, and aluminum foil and trays.

The new recycling locations are:

Hood River Garbage, 3440 Guignard Drive, Hood River.

The Dalles Disposal, 1317 W. First St., The Dalles.

Residents can find accepted materials, preparation guidelines and operating hours at RecycleOn.org/OregonCenters.

Remember- the following items can not go in curbside recycling bins

Residents should not place plastic clamshell food containers, Styrofoam, aerosol containers, household trash, plastic bags or aluminum foil in their residential recycling carts. These materials can contaminate recyclable items, damage sorting equipment or require specialized processing that curbside recycling systems are not designed to handle.
