The Dalles, Ore., June 12, 2026 — The North Wasco County Education Foundation (NWCEF) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2026 Golden Apple Awards, recognizing exceptional educators and school staff throughout North Wasco County School District 21.
The Golden Apple Awards are an annual tradition that honors teachers, classified staff, administrators, coaches, volunteers, and other school employees who demonstrate excellence, dedication, and a commitment to student success.
This year’s recipients are:
Teacher Excellence
Amber Todd, Colonel Wright Elementary School
Janell Geary, Colonel Wright Elementary School
Classified & Support Staff Excellence
Shonagh Preston, Dry Hollow Elementary School
Administrator / Other Excellence
Mairead Beane-Kelly, Chenowith Elementary School
Recipients were selected from a large field of nominees submitted by students, families, staff members, and community members from across the district. Nearly 150 nominations were received this year, highlighting the many individuals who work each day to create positive learning environments and support student achievement.
The nominations painted a picture of educators and staff who go above and beyond their job descriptions. Students described teachers who make learning engaging and accessible, support staff who ensure schools run smoothly and welcome every child, and administrators who foster positive school cultures where students feel safe, valued, and connected.
“Every year, the Golden Apple Awards remind us how fortunate we are to have so many dedicated professionals serving the students of District 21,” said Kelsey Alsheimer, Administrative Director of the North Wasco County Education Foundation. “The stories shared through the nominations reflect the incredible care, compassion, and commitment that our educators and school staff bring to their students. We are grateful to everyone who took the time to recognize these outstanding individuals.”
In addition to the award recipients, the Foundation recognizes and thanks all nominees for their service and dedication to students. Their work helps make District 21 schools places where students can learn, grow, and thrive.
