One foot in front of another for this happy couple

The Dalles, Ore., March 8, 2024 — Mardell and Paul LeGore of The Dalles took a walk on Riverfront Trail on Thursday, March 7 as the sun beckoned the couple to the edge of the Columbia.
It was not their first hike together.
The couple, who met at Crook County High School, will celebrate 65 years of marriage on July 4th.
“We’re here almost every day,” Paul said, noting the couple walks about 3 miles.
Paul is 83 and Mardell is 84.
“I married a kid,” she quipped.
“Cradle robber,” he tossed back.
Paul said they married after he got out of the service and was working as a car lot attendant at a car dealership.
“Talk about an independence day,” Mardell said of the marriage.
“They gave me one day off,” Paul said laughing.
The couple moved to The Dalles in 2006, and said they like the safety of walking Riverfront Trail by Klindt’s Cove, which is far from traffic.
Sunny skies are expected to continue today with a high of 53 predicted by the National Weather Service.
