Pair crush it in Egg Toss to celebrate Nursing Care Week at Vet's Home

Samantha Wageman and Tavita Seufalemua celebrate after a hard fought contest to see who could toss an egg the farthest without devastating results. The pair were magic on Monday, May 9th.

Samantha Wageman and Tavita Seufalemua know what to do when it comes to eggs.

The pair are a staple of dietary services putting in decades in food service at the Oregon Veteran’s Home in The Dalles.

Guess what?

All that food preparation paid off.

The pair whipped up an egg toss victory on Monday, May 9th, during a celebration of the National Skilled Nursing Care Center Week.

Both shifts of the staff took to the air with their huevos in the annual celebration.

Business Office Director Debbie Wentz-Cantrell noted Seufalemua was a wringer and had found himself in the winner's circle in past years.

And the rules are - you can’t break your egg - never mind if you drop it or not.

One could have sworn their egg was hardboiled.

But alas, judges smashed the little devil at the end of their run, giving credence to the incredible exhibition of bouncing and dropping of that white oval.

Wageman and Seufalemua were awarded $25 Dairy Queen gift cards for their championship toss.

“My daughter is going to like this,” Seufalemua was overheard saying.

Wentz-Cantrell said it was just one of many activities planned for the week as the Veteran’s Home is celebrating the staff that make it all work.

“Were dressing up like dalmatians tomorrow,” she said, noting Toy Story characters would also be on tap as it is an All-Disney day. Ring Toss will also be on tap. There’s a potato race on Wednesday and staff will come in their best western attire on Thursday for a Water Gun Shoot out.

They’ll finish the week with a BBQ on Friday and dress in colors to honor Old Glory. Door Prizes!

From Oregon Veteran’s Home:

National Skilled Nursing Care week, formerly known as National Nursing Home Week, was established by the American Health Care Association (AHCA) in 1967 to recognize the essential role of skilled nursing care centers in caring for America’s elders and individuals with disabilities. This year’s theme, “Creating and Nurturing Connections,” celebrates skilled nursing centers, their residents and staff.

If you know anyone who has dedicated their lives to serving the elderly in these facilities, remember to thank them for the work they do.  Not just during this special week, but every time you see them.

The Oregon Veterans’ Home appreciates its staff and encourages the residents, staff, volunteers and family members to participate in events taking place around the country during 2022’s National Skilled Nursing Care Week.
