Funding Education for Local Women Hot Topic at P.E.O. Luncheon
From our local P.E.O. Chapters:
P.E.O. Chapters Q, BF and EJ met for a no-host luncheon on July 6th to enjoy a social gathering of “sisters” and hear reports on the first-ever Virtual P.E.O. Oregon State Convention.
P.E.O., with chapters throughout the country, is a Philanthropic Educational Organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans and stewardship of Cottey College in Nevada, MO, and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.
Tuesday’s luncheon was held at the Bargeway Pub in The Dalles and was well attended.
Highlights of the reports included a grand total of 689 registrations, a wonderful workshop on Building P.E.O. Diversity and a workshop on Publishing P.E.O. News.
A presentation about the Objects and Aims, with their meanings, as referenced by the seven founders, was inspirational. More will follow in chapter meetings.
The Education Project Celebration was presented by P.E.O. scholarship recipients. The variety of careers being supported by P.E.O. projects was impressive.
Our P.E.O. funds raised locally have assisted qualified applicants this past year whose educational goals were: firefighter EMT, nursing, auto mechanics, architecture, math teacher and medical doctor.
The theme of the convention was “Launching Wonder Women Into the Stars” and helping those women reach their individual goals demonstrated that they were not alone in their journey to meet their goals. P.E.O. “sisters” were on the launch pad with them.
