Bingen, WA, April 15, 2024 – Bingen's centennial celebration brought a vibrant atmosphere to the town on Saturday April 13, drawing locals and visitors together to mark the significant milestone in the town's history.

Mayor Catherine Kiewitt, adorned with a festive party hat, and City Administrator Krista Loney initiated the festivities with an energetic donut eating contest at the Society Hotel.

The contents of the bag being held by Mayor Kiewitt were what was left of the Time Capsule unearthed by Bingen Public Works. The City intends to bury another time capsule (with better protection from weather and deterioration) during Huckleberry Fest in September. Photo: Ken Park

Party goers were encouraged to explore Bingen's businesses, collecting stamps in their "passports" for a chance to win prizes. Margie’s Outdoor Store made the event extra special by hosting the grand opening of their “Hero’s Chamber” during the event, continuing their dedication to being a one-stop shop for adventure.

The day's highlights included the unveiling of "Oh Joy of Joys," a statue honoring the late Guillermo Fisch, former City Council member and key component in the success of Insitu. The unveiling set the stage for the Bingen Art Walk.

As people traversed the streets of Bigen, they may have caught a glimpse of the city’s newest art installation “Oh Joy of Joys” a statue of the late Guillermo Fisch. Fisch served on the Bingen City Council for many years and was a key component in the success of Insitu. But most Bingen residents will remember him as the little man in a bowtie and beret walking the streets of Bingen, happy to chat with anyone. “Oh Joy of Joys” is on the corner of Ash Street and SR-14 across from Beneventis Pizza, and begins the Bingen Art Walk.
