The Dalles, Ore., April 4, 2024 — The Dalles' Downtown Tree Project is underway from April 2-6 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The project aims to address the deteriorating condition of existing trees and wells in the retail corridor.
Tree species to be planted include Persian Ironwood, European Hornbeam, and Hedge Maple. Trees will replace stressed and dying and, in some cases, missing trees from existing tree wells.
Key components of the project include:
Removal of 62 dead or dying trees for safety and aesthetic purposes.
Replanting of 68 new trees to enhance the streetscape.
Annual pruning of 132 street trees during late winter.
Bio Root installation for all new trees to promote healthy root growth.
Annual Deep Root Fertilization and Soil Care for all trees during spring.
Annual Drought Relief Watering from June to August, conducted five times each year.
“Having a healthy tree canopy provides much-needed shade, beauty, and aesthetics to the community. Carbon sequestration and being a green leader is another driver for the community,” said Michael Spaulding, of The Davey Tree Expert Company.
