The Dalles, Ore. June 4, 2024 — Sorosis Park was buzzing with activity this morning as a diverse group of volunteers gathered for a weed pulling event organized by Google and North Wasco County Parks and Recreation District. Volunteers worked to pull weeds that have sprung up in the newly bark chipped areas of Sorosis Park to help beautify the space.

"Google reached out to us, wanting to find a way to give back to the community. This was the idea we came up with," said Scott Baker, Executive Director of NWCPRD

Google provided gloves, tools, Gatorade, and music for the event, and brought along 15 to 20 volunteers. In addition, three staff members from Parks & Recreation and eight community members participated.

Baker spoke to lthe dedication of The Dalles residents to maintaining their community spaces.

"People showed up with gloves and a good attitude," Baker noted. "People in The Dalles continue to impress me."

When CCCNews arrived, a surprising amount of weeds had already been pulled in a short period of time, showcasing the effectiveness of community collaboration.
